The story of Jesus healing blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52) is a powerful one. What's unique about it is that Bartimaeus was simply sitting "by the roadside" as Jesus walked on by.
Bartimaeus recognized the voice of Jesus and called out, "Lord, have mercy on me! I want to see again!" This is a unique scene to imagine. This Lenten season you will be asked to imagine that you could encounter God at this level – street-level – along the roadside.
If you could hear Jesus passing by, what would you cry out, what would you ask of him? Not what ought you ask. Not what does the church tell me to ask. But what question would you actually lay before the Lord of Life? What would be your "questions from the roadside?"
You will be invited to share your own questions in the weeks leading up to Ash Wednesday and throughout the Lenten season and Holy Week as we look closely at eight common questions shared by many in the Church.
As usual, we will offer Wednesday evening midweek services using Holden Evening Vespers, immediately following our soup supper at The Table. All are invited to attend.
