We celebrated on Stewardship Sunday, November 14!
January, 2022
Dear Friends In Christ,
We're beginning a new chapter of the story of St. Paul Lutheran Church. The title of it is "Financial Stability." If we are to move faithfully and confidently into the future God has in store for us, we must be financially stable.
Currently we are relying on ELCA Synod and Churchwide Re-Development Funds to assist us in meeting our budgeted obligations. For this, we are grateful. However, the Synod and the ELCA Department of Congregational Vitality and Domestic Mission are hopeful that we will soon be self-sustaining and thriving in terms of our church finances. This ABOVE and BEYOND effort in 2022 is an intentional plan to help make that happen, sooner, rather than later.
As was reported at our 2022 Annual Congregational Meeting, in both 2020 and 2021, annual budgets with large deficits were approved based solely on an estimate of what would be received in contributions rather than what was needed to pay budgeted expenses. This practice is not financially sustainable. Thus, as we enter 2022, an annual operating budget of $256,612.00 was approved at our Annual Congregational Meeting in January. This amount is what is needed to pay all of our expenses and reflects a noticeable increase in estimated offerings received.
In order to reduce the expected continuing deficit of nearly $40,000.00 we are asking members and friends of SPLC to give ABOVE and BEYOND their usual giving in 2022. This will get us to the financial stability that we seek.
Here's how we'll do it. Beginning on Sunday, January 30, you will see a display in the narthex with one hundred and forty envelopes attached to it. Each envelope will be marked with a different amount of donation. Throughout the year, you are encouraged to take an envelope, place the amount indicated on it, inside of the envelope, and place the envelope in the Sunday offering plate or drop off in the church office. This will continue until all the envelopes are gone and $40,000.00 has been received. Again, these are gifts that go ABOVE and BEYOND our usual offerings.
In God's Gracious Abundance, I trust fully, we can do this.
